Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park:
A Journey Through History and Nature
Just a short drive from The Crown lies Abeokuta Paradise Nature Park—a hidden gem in the hills of Westmoreland that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.
Established on the grounds of the former Dean's Valley Water Works Estate, this 13-acre park holds deep historical roots. Named after Abeokuta, Nigeria, the park honors the Yoruba heritage of the enslaved Africans who once worked these lands. The connection between the two Abeokutas serves as a poignant reminder of resilience and cultural preservation.
Visitors can explore the ruins of the 18th-century Great House, constructed from thick cut-stone walls, and take a refreshing dip in Jamaica's oldest swimming pool. Fed by a quarter-mile aqueduct from the Sweet River, this near-Olympic-sized pool offers mineral-rich waters believed to have therapeutic properties. Surrounding the pool, lush gardens bloom with tropical flora, creating a serene environment perfect for relaxation and reflection.
