Rockland's Bird Sanctuary

Rocklands Bird Sanctuary:

Where Winged Wonders Meet Gentle Stillness

Just outside Montego Bay, tucked into the hills of Anchovy, you’ll find a truly magical place—Rocklands Bird Sanctuary. Known for its peaceful energy and rare up-close encounters with native birds, this family-run sanctuary is a favorite among travelers seeking something quiet, beautiful, and deeply connected to nature.

Founded in the 1950s by conservationist Lisa Salmon, the sanctuary began as a passion project and became a living legacy. Today, guests can experience the same sense of wonder Lisa shared with thousands—surrounded by birdsong, mountain breeze, and blooming flora.

One of the most unforgettable experiences here? Holding a tiny bottle of nectar while a wild hummingbird gently lands on your finger. Among them, you may spot the famed Doctor Bird, Jamaica’s national symbol, in all its iridescent glory. Other colorful visitors often include orioles, bananaquits, and woodpeckers, each adding to the sanctuary’s charm.

The atmosphere is quiet and meditative, making Rocklands the perfect excursion for those who enjoy slow travel, nature photography, or simply being present in a place that feels untouched by time.

No reservations are needed, and the entry fee supports the continued care of this sacred space. Let us help arrange a visit during your stay—we’re happy to coordinate transportation and offer tips to make the most of your experience.
